Submission

The discussion on the current lesson about submission will be lively and I'm sorry to miss it. We interpret the word submission a bit differently than the Greek intended. What is the Greek word used and what was the original meaning. Where in the text is the identical Greek word used? Draw a diagram of the line of submission that God put into place for His world. Miss everybody already. Phyllis

  1. Instead of telling wives to "obey"(Gr.hypakouo), Paul appeals to them to "submit"(Gr.hypotasso).The term suggests an ordering of society. A military term meaning "to arrange oneself under another", and indicates a voluntary submission, not an unthinking obedience.

  2. Great Debbie. You hit the nail on the head with both "arrange oneself" and "voluntary submission." Because of the way I was raised as a child, submit always meant something inflicted on another person. This has been a very huge revelation to me!
